This week Jane finally went into hospital to have her tonsils removed after 40 years of suffering from on and off chronic tonsillitis. As the day itself approached, Matthew in particular become more and more agitated at the thought of something being done to mummy so soon after hearing about the details of Daniel’s pending knee op. He’d been off school this week thanks to being sick at school on Monday, so was on hand when I took Jane to the hospital. Cue lots of cuddles – a little out of character for Matthew, who tends to shun physical contact. When Jane & I got to hospital, it was evident that she’d be staying in overnight. Eventually I left her to wait then headed home for the boys.

Well, when I saw Matthew and told him Jane would be staying in hospital overnight, he welled up instantly. Tears were flowing…
